Coworking with a Soul: betahaus on innovation, resilience, and human connections

betahaus has established itself as a pioneer in the coworking industry in Bulgaria, fostering innovation and collaboration since 2012. It has grown into a hub for major companies, expanding its footprint with premium office spaces.

In Romania, betahaus entered the market in 2024 with a high-end coworking space in Bucharest, emphasizing flexibility, top-tier infrastructure, and community-driven experiences.

With a strong focus on entrepreneurship, collaboration, and innovation, betahaus continues to shape the future of work in Central and Eastern Europe.

If we meet your business as a person on the street, how would it introduce itself to us?

Hi, this is betahaus – the first coworking space in Bulgaria and part of a network with locations in Berlin, Hamburg, Barcelona and Bucharest. Our business model changed the real estate industry and enabled different people and companies to share the same working environment. It made them happier and more productive. Nice to meet you and come co-work with us!

Tell us about a moment when you had to close one door to open another. What made you take that step?

Moments like this are created by the balance between fear and hope. When hope becomes a driving force, new doors will always get opened. I remember the time when we had to close our first location and scale down to a smaller space in order to save the company. We were only able to do so when we had this spark in the eyes, bigger than the fear of failing. We had hope and it was enough to make the step forward.

Share a moment when someone lent you a helping hand without expecting anything in return, and it made a significant impact on you. What happened, and why do you remember it?

I will need to go back to my university years in Basel where I met one of my best friends for life. He felt that I was experiencing a tough time away from my home country and invited me to join him at a student’s organization called AIESEC. It was just a regular, weekly meeting of all the members but I instantly felt surrounded by like-minded people. One year later, I got elected as a president of the organization and my friend joined me in the executive board. It became a life changing experience for both of us and I will be forever grateful to him for pushing me into that path.

Tell us about a moment when you stopped, looked around, and said to yourself: "Yes, this is exactly why I started!" When was it, and how did it feel?

To be honest, I haven’t had such a moment in my “for-profit” working experience. However, there was such a moment with a small NGO for grass root sports which I founded with my brother some time ago. We renovated a football playground with the community and volunteers in one of Sofia’s neighborhoods. There was a football completion for kids to celebrate the opening and once it started, I was looking at them play with such a joy and in that exact moment I felt a special buzz throughout my body and realized – this is why we did it. Moments like this are so rare but they make you feel alive.

If someone were to create a comedy series about your business, which scene would absolutely have to be in the first episode?

I will always remember a team meeting on the next day after an epic betahaus party. We had to discuss some important things, all of us hangover and just sitting together, laughing and somehow trying to get going. After 5 minutes we decided that the meeting is useless and went to buy some “kufteta”, “lutenitza” and “airyan” to get better. And you know what, we started again and produced some great ideas!
